Professional Development

This past month, David Suh, an L.A. based photographer known as the “Pose King” for his Reels and TikToks empowering people to pose for photos, said he was holding a workshop. I’ve been following him for months and jumped at the opportunity to learn from one of the best. While his free content is great, the ability to ask questions and learn from him, photographer to photographer, was a dream come true.

Many professions require a set number of hours of development, and some companies will set aside a budget for training and growth. Photography is not one of them. As the owner of a small business, I’m in charge of my own professional development, and I place a priority on continuing to hone my skills.

The three hours I spent learning from David were worth every penny. He not only went through posing, but also advanced techniques regarding the exposure triangle, lighting, client relations, and more. I’m already putting what I learned into practice while shooting fall sessions.

One of the most important things in life is to continue learning and growing. Even though we may have left our school days behind us, that doesn’t mean the learning opportunities are gone! I encourage you to look into development opportunities offered by your company. Follow industry newsletters and socials to stay on top of possible workshops. There is also a wealth of free materials online to further learning in almost any field. With less than a hundred days left in the year, there’s still plenty of time to learn something new.

Email me what workshop you’ve attended or course you’ve taken this year that you learned from!
