Cocoa and Lights

Cocoa and Lights

Every year for the holidays, my family bundles up and gets into the car to drive around the Wake Forest neighborhoods decked out in lights. We never try to keep up with the Joneses, but we’re thankful for those who do, providing us with spectacular displays to see at the cost of only a bit of gas in the tank. We also bring along with us thermoses of hot chocolate and have Christmas carols singing from the speakers to further encourage the cheer.

I can’t bring you along in the car but I can share with you my cocoa recipe. While melting chocolate in milk over the stove is all very well and good, my recipe requires a little less oversight.

Christmas Room Special Session December 2021

Hot Cocoa Mix

½ Cup French Vanilla Creamer
1 Cup Cocoa
¼ Cup Brown Sugar
½ Cup White Sugar
A Dash of Cinnamon
A Dash of Nutmeg
Hot Water
Whipped Cream
1 Tsp Chocolate Sprinkles

Mix all the dry ingredients together. Should make about 4 ounces. For a cup of hot chocolate, scoop 2 tablespoons into a mug and fill with boiling water. Stir thoroughly. For an extra seasonal boost, stir with a candy cane. Top with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. Enjoy!

Make sure it’s not too hot when you give it to the kids. If you live in someplace warmer than the Raleigh North Carolina, unlike this photographer, try the cocoa iced instead.
